ASTROS 3 Cards 1
I have had this one CIRCLED all week. I was praying for no rain outs.
Wandy Rodriquez and the Astros are simply on fire and Vegas is still pounding the Cards. The Stros have won 7 of 9 as they shipped off all the aging dead beats. Now with the youth movement they are starting to roll. Without a doubt, their ace hits the hill this evening. All Rodriquez has done his last several starts is K at least 1 per inning and average 1 run per game allowed with a WHIP just under 1.00. He is coming off a 5-1 win at Philly where he allowed 1 run over 7 innings, walking 1 and whiffing 6. His previous start saw him K 10 Marlins over 6 innings. What makes this game intriguing is the Cards inability to hit down the stretch. Other than Puljos, this team is not looking like a Championship team. Expect the Astros to walk Puljos at least 3 times tonight. The Cards have won just 4 of their last 13 games, most to the weakest teams in the NL. Tonight they send their ace to the hill as well and he has won just once in his last 3 games thanks to a lack of run support. And not to mention allowing 6 runs in his last start to the lowly Nationals. Also, in his last 3 starts he has whiffed just 2.5 per start. Unlike Carpenter numbers from early in the season. However, he still has enough talent to stifle the Astros to 3 or 4 runs. Problem is, his teams bats will only muster 1-2 runs against Rodriquez.
Cards have won 4 of the last 6 in this series outscoring the Cards 36-21. The Astros are also coming off a 4 game sweep of the Phillies right in Philly, not good news for the declining Cards. This will be the Cards 9th road game in a row. Last night Happ blanked the Cards and the Astros won 3-0 on just 3 hits. The same could easily happen tonight.
